Here’s a breakthrough moment from one of our instructors:
“I have a student who does not like playing from our lesson book at all. There’s also a learning disability involved, so it took a lot of trial and error to find an approach that worked.
I explained, more than once, that the concepts in the lesson book cross over to the music she wants to play. Slowly, we developed a rhythm in her lessons: first, she shows me what she has practiced, then we work through the next concept in the lesson book and the song that follows that concept, and finally, we move on to the song she really loves.
In our mission, the part that states ‘we develop musical freedom…’ has been key with this student. It gives her confidence in playing pieces she genuinely enjoys. Our lessons have certainly become more enjoyable!”
