Questions? We've Got Answers.

Everything you need to know about lessons, pricing, scheduling, and what to expect as a Zera family.

What areas do you serve?
We provide in-home music lessons throughout the DFW Metroplex, including Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Southlake, Flower Mound, Arlington, Dallas, Fort Worth, Carrollton, Denton, and everywhere in between. Not sure if we cover your neighborhood? Check our live map HERE or just ask — we’re adding instructors regularly.

What instruments do you teach?
Piano, guitar, drums, and voice — with some instructors also experienced in strings and brass. See instructor details →

How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on the instructor matched to your family — rates reflect each instructor’s experience and tenure with Zera (our best teachers stay for years, and we pay them accordingly). Lessons typically range from $145–$210/month, billed as a flat monthly rate regardless of how many lessons fall in a given month. Want exact pricing for your area? Tell us your zip code →

Why is it a monthly subscription instead of paying per lesson?
We operate on a 52-week lesson schedule — full-year, weekly instruction, because consistency is what actually drives progress. Billing it as a flat month-to-month subscription means your price never changes, even in five-lesson months, and there’s no long-term contract locking you in.

What’s ZMC Premium?
ZMC Premium brings our most intentional lesson practices to your home each week, including lesson books included at no extra cost. Learn more →

Do you offer a sibling discount?
Yes! Each additional sibling enrolled receives 20% off their lessons.

Is there an age limit for lessons?
Not really — we’ve taught students anywhere from age 3 to 93. Whatever stage your family is in, we can likely match you with the right instructor.

How does the trial period work?
We offer two ways to start: a free trial lesson, or a $99 4-week trial period — most families end up choosing the 4-week option, since it gives a much clearer picture of fit than a single lesson can. The best move is to start a conversation with us first; we’ll talk through your child’s goals and help you decide which path makes the most sense before you commit to anything.

What do I need to provide?
Your instructor brings a beginner book to your very first lesson, so there’s nothing to buy ahead of time. By the end of that first lesson, they’ll recommend exactly which book to purchase going forward — unless you’re a ZMC Premium subscriber, in which case we ship that book (and every book after it) straight to you. You’ll also want a well-lit, distraction-free space for lessons.

How does billing work?
Lessons are pre-paid monthly through auto-pay in your Student Portal — set it and forget it. Your first payment is prorated based on the remaining lessons in the month and must be made by 12:00pm on the day of your first paid lesson, or that lesson may be forfeited. Going forward, payments process automatically 7 days before the 1st of each month.

Is there a fee for paying by credit card?
Your initial payment is made by credit card (2% convenience fee). To avoid this, switch to a verified bank account in your Student Portal — it takes 4–5 days to process, so we recommend doing this early.

What if I opt out of auto-pay?
A $25 processing fee will be added to your monthly invoice.

We take consistency seriously — it’s the biggest driver of real progress. But we also know life happens, which is why we built one of the most generous cancellation policies in the industry: most lesson companies require 24 hours notice before a missed lesson is forfeited. We only ask for 4.

What if I need to cancel a lesson?
Text your instructor at least 4 hours before your scheduled lesson and you’ll receive a Make-Up Credit. You can find your instructor’s number in your Student Portal or weekly Lesson Reminder email.

What happens if I cancel with less than 4 hours notice?
The lesson is forfeited. If you’d still like a credit for that missed lesson, an additional Make-Up Credit can be purchased separately.

How do I use a Make-Up Credit?
Two ways: schedule a lesson on a different day (ideally 2+ days from your regular slot), or extend a future lesson by 10–30 minutes until the time is made up. Make-Up Credits never expire as long as lessons remain ongoing, and your instructor will proactively text you with options.

What if the instructor shows up and we’re not home?
If the instructor arrives and the student/family is unavailable for all or part of the lesson, the instructor may leave at the end of the arranged time, and no Make-Up Credit will be issued. If the instructor arrives late, they’ll still teach the full scheduled duration.

How many lessons do we get per month?
One lesson per week, year-round, on a 52-week schedule.

Do you host recitals?
Yes — twice a year, in June and December, at a central location in the Metroplex. Performing is one of the biggest builders of real-world courage and poise we’ve seen in our students.

What happens around holidays?
We’re serious about consistency, so lessons continue on our 52-week schedule as much as possible. When a holiday does land on your lesson day, your instructor will work directly with you to get a make-up scheduled — so a holiday week never means a missed week of progress.

Do you have a referral program?
Yes, and it’s one of our favorite things. Refer a friend or family — when they mention your name, enroll in ongoing lessons, and complete a full month, they’ll receive a $100 lesson credit, and so will you. There’s no limit to how many families you can refer. Credits apply to future lessons and aren’t transferable or redeemable for cash.

Do you do anything for long-term students?
We do! Every year a student stays with Zera, they receive an anniversary gift — past years have included custom shirts, water bottles, drawstring bags, and more. It’s a small way we celebrate the families who’ve trusted us with something this important, year after year.

How do you vet your instructors?
Every instructor goes through a rigorous process before ever meeting your child: an active driver’s license, a long history of music experience and theory knowledge, rigorous interviews scored against a strict rubric, a comprehensive questionnaire, extensive nationwide background checks, mandatory Child Abuse Awareness & Prevention Training, and a required 100% score on their onboarding quiz.

What safety policies are in place during lessons?
Lessons never occur in an instructor’s home. An adult (18+) must be present in your home during the lesson — if no adult is present, the lesson is forfeited. Instructors must be greeted by an adult on arrival, lessons happen in open spaces or with the door open, and physical contact is limited to high fives, side hugs, or a brief pat on the back, always respecting your child’s preferences. Any outside communication between instructors and minors goes through a parent or guardian. If any concern ever arises, our administration investigates immediately.

What information do you collect, and is it shared?
We collect names, phone numbers, emails, and addresses for billing and communication only — never shared with third parties. Payment processing is handled securely by a third-party vendor; Zera never sees or stores your credit card information.

Will my child be photographed for marketing?
We’d love to feature your student on our website or social media, and we’ll ask for your permission as part of your enrollment agreement. If you’d prefer to opt out at any time, just email us at support@zeramusic.co.
